What sets this program apart from others?
The program will engage students in modeling best practice for online teaching using the latest web tools and Learning Management Systems. The program engages a cohort model focused on student engagement and meaningful facilitation of online learning - unlike many other programs essentially offering a traditional correspondence model for distance delivery.

Are program credits transferable into a Master's program?
Yes, the OLTD program qualifies graduates to complete VIU's Master of Education in Educational Leadership graduate degree program with only an additional 10 credits of Major Project/Thesis work required.
Why are the courses in a short six-week format?
The short, six-week concentrations enable students to quickly apply learning, theories and strategies to specific topics relevant to distance learning and student success. Each course builds on the previous, providing graduates with a strong practical application of tools and techniques. The time frame also supports practicing teachers and working professionals with a manageable course schedule.
Do you offer a cohort model?
The program engages a small cohort model per annual intake.
I am from another province. Can I apply to take this program?
Yes, residents of any Canadian province are encouraged to apply.
I don't have Canadian citizenship. Can I apply to take this program?
Yes, International applicants are welcomed. Enhanced International Tuition Fees apply.

What will the weekly time commitment for the program?
The program requires approximately 6-8 hours of practical, lecture and lab time per week, per course.
What kind of computer do I need to have to allow me to participate?
Students can participate using any Macintosh, iOS or PC device with a reliable Internet connection.
I don't hold a Bachelor of Education degree, can I take your program?
Applicants to the program may hold a BEd or a degree in any discipline from an accredited university along with current teaching experience.
Do I need BC teacher certification?
No, provincial teacher's certification is not required.
On graduation, will BC teachers in the public system qualify for TQS salary increments?
Yes, successful OLTD program graduates will qualify for increased TQS category placement depending on their current salary placement.
